Met Gala 2014: White Tie And Decorations.

Following last year’s delve into the world of punk, this year’s Met Ball saw its star guests return to a more glamorous dress code with the theme White Tie and Decorations to celebrate the opening of the museum’s exhibition dedicated to 50s designer Charles James. While some strayed from the the theme as per usual, many embraced old school elegance with the most romantic of dresses.

Strapless Columns. The strapless column gown was a popular choice led by Victoria Beckham in Victoria Beckham, Rachel McAdams in Ralph Lauren and Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney.

Crop Tops. Crop Tops offering a hint of mid riff were worn by Emma Stone, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway and Cara Delevingne.

Shimmering Black. Beyonce in Givenchy, Kristen Wiig in Balenciaga, Amber Valletta in Erdem shimmered in their all black ensembles.

Plunging Necklines. Blake Lively, Zoe Saldana, Leighton Meester and Jessica Alba all showed off plunging necklines edging towards the navel.

Pink Moments. Pink was the colour of the night with Taylor Swift in pale pink Oscar de la Renta, Rachel McAdams in Ralph Lauren, Suki Waterhouse in blush Burberry Prorsum ruffles and Kendall Jenner in custom pink Topshop.

Elbow Gloves. Sarah Jessica Parker, Dakota Johnson, Ruth Wilson and Karlie Kloss stuck to the theme by pairing their gowns with satin gloves.

Ball Gowns. A sea of ball gowns swept down the red carpet from the likes of Karolina Kurkova, Karen Elson, Suki Waterhouse and Claire Danes.

White Tie. Bradley Cooper, Benjamin Cumberbatch, Matt Bomer and Andy Cohen adhered to the ‘white tie’ theme with their white bow ties and tails.

Slits. Rita Ora led Giuliana Rancic, Kim Kardashian and Lea Michele in the thigh baring trend.

Bright Colours. Emmy Rossum, Allison Williams, Liu Wen and Ivanka Trump brightened up the red carpet in their bright coloured gowns with Emmy Rossum in a printed strapless Carolina Herrera gown and Allison Williams in orange Oscar de la Renta.
